Hi all, Here is a short question and answer I received in email over the weekend. I wanted to share it with you:
Boiler, I really appreciate all you do. On my credit report, it does not list the full account number and I am wanting to send a dispute letter to the credit agencies. Do I just send the partial number?
Also, if I receive a letter from a collection agent / attorney should I dispute the claim with the credit agency as well as the collection agency? Thanks so much! Ryan
Here was my reply:
On your credit report you can use the partial account info that the credit reporting agency listed on their report. I have done this hundreds of times without issue.
Also, dispute everything. If you get a letter from a collection agency or an attorney you must send them a dispute letter with 30 days of receiving their letter. There is an example on my blog. Make sure to do the dispute in writing within 30 days to maintain your FDCPA rights. If you fail to do this the path ahead becomes more difficult. If that didn’t answer your question let me know. I will answer your other email momentarily. Boiler
I just stumbled on you site after doing a search for CRA’s account numbers on your credit report. Thanks for the info! That is what I needed. Tom M
Tom M, Welcome aboard! We look forward to your success. Boiler
